We had a home break-in recently and PetleyHare were beyond wonderful to deal with. They got us in touch with our insurance company and reached out to us every day to see how we were doing. They were empathetic, helpful and kind — making a very stressful situation much easier to deal with. Highly recommended.
What To Expect
When Filing an Auto Claim
Once we notify your insurance company of your loss, you should hear from an adjuster shortly after.
Your insurance company may use preferred shops that guarantee their work. You do have the option of using a shop of your choice, however, if, at a later date, there is a problem with the work that was done, your insurance company will not necessarily pay any additional costs for repairs that may occur.
In the event there are injuries associated with your automobile loss, you will be assigned two different claims adjusters. One adjuster will be for the damages to your vehicle, the other will be an Accident Benefits adjuster for your injuries. Please keep in mind, if you have health benefits, those benefits will be used first before your automobile accident benefits come into play.
If damage to your vehicle is substantial, it is possible that your insurance company will deem your vehicle to be a total loss. To ensure you are prepared for this, we suggest you do some research for an appropriate settlement offer. You can do this by looking at sites such as AutoTrader and Kijiji. You may also want to start looking into other vehicles to purchase.
It is important for you to be aware that once a settlement offer for your vehicle has been accepted, your rental vehicle typically needs to be returned within 1-2 days.
When Filing a Property Claim
While your insurance company is eager to settle your property loss, these claims take time. They can take two–three months to complete.
If your property has been damaged due to flooding, affected areas such as flooring and drywall may be ripped out, a contractor will set up drying fans to prevent mould.
Keep a record of any time spent preventing the damage from worsening and any supplies purchased to assist in the claim settlement.
If you must stay outside of your home due to the damage, please keep all your receipts as you may be entitled to reimbursement.
Keep track of any of your belongings that are damaged. You may be asked to fill out additional forms with this information as a part of the process.
A restoration company will provide your insurance company with a quote for damages, at which time your insurance company may choose to obtain a second quote. You can also use a contractor of your choice subject to a reasonable cost for the work.
